Mrs. Barbara I. Zona, 96

Mrs. Barbara I. Zona, 96, of Ellwood City passed away on Saturday, September 23rd 2023 at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Zona was born on October 29th, 1926 in Clevedon, England to the late Charles and Violet M. (Lapham) Read. She served in the Woman’s Land Army in England during World War II and traveled to the United States in 1946 at the age of 19. She was a member of Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church. Mrs. Zona enjoyed golfing, bowling, going on cruises, and most of all, spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Ted) Wehman of Perry Twp., and Josephine (James) Stefanak of Aurora, OH, sons, Robert C. (Rene) Zona of Sharon and Gregory (Margaret) Zona of Cambridge Springs, grandchildren, Adam (Marissa) Wehman, James (Christy) Stefanak Jr., Jeffrey Stefanak, Jennifer (Jerry) Guerriero, Meghan (Tony) Ramic, Michael , Brian, Caty (Dan Langford), Danielle, Raymond and Victoria Zona, great-grandchildren, Mia, Penelope, Liam and Addyson Wehman, Bridget Stefanak, Nicholas Zona, and Patrick Ramic, sister-in-law Joan Read, of England, her life long best friend of over 75 years, Dorothy Sudano and several nieces and nephews both here in the States and over in England.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George F. Zona whom she married on September 11th, 1945 and passed away on May 29th 1989, grandson, Patrick Wehman, and brother, Bernard Read.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 26th from 2-4, 6-8 pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Wednesday, September 27th at 10:00 am at Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church with Father David Egan officiating. Interment will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions in Mrs. Zona’s name may be made out the Holy Redeemer Angel Fund which directly supports the Holy Redeemer Food Bank and Social Services or to St. Jude’s Research Hospital at;
